>Israel Resumes Military Operation In Gaza As Cease-fire Collapses
A 72-hour cease-fire between Israel and Hamas may have been breached just a few hours after it began Friday, as a report indicated that Israel has already informed the United Nations that the fragile truce is officially over.
Ashraf al-Kidra, an official from Gaza’s Health Ministry, said at least four Palestinians were killed and 15 wounded as a result of Israeli tank fire in the Gazan city of Rafah that took place two hours after the cease-fire began early Friday.
The Israeli military said it was looking into that incident. It was not immediately clear if the tank fire took place in response to Hamas rocket fire or another incident involving Hamas’ network of tunnels along the border.
Meanwhile, U.N. Secretary General Ban ki-Moon has been told that Israeli is resuming its military operations in Gaza after accusing Hamas of breaching the terms of the agreement — a halt in fighting for humanitarian purposes — Al Arabiya reported.
More than 1,400 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed since the conflict began on July 8, mostly civilians. Israel says 56 of its soldiers have died along with three civilians.
